Author Describes Waiting for Heart Transplant
Lenoir, NC February 1 2004--"This is the only book on the market today written by a family member of an organ transplant recipient. My hope is that it will offer comfort and support to those sharing the difficult journey to transplant with a loved one who is among the more than 82,000 people on the national transplant list," says Lisa Stiles Nance, the author of Life In Limbo, Waiting for a Heart Transplant.
On August 19, 1999, Nance's husband, Miller, was admitted to The Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he would wait six months for a heart transplant. Life In Limbo tells the story of the emotional and logistical difficulties Lisa faced during that time, such as single-parenting the couple's two teenagers, running her husband's pawnshop, and visiting him in a hospital 500 miles from their home.
According to Jane Corrado, Communications Director for Carolina Donor Services, the organ procurement organization for eastern and central North Carolina, "Lisa's beautifully written book captures the difficulty, uncertainty, and pain of waiting for a second chance at life for a loved one. Through recollections, poetry, and personal philosophies, she recounts her feelings of fear, anger, loss, sorrow, hope, and joy in a moving and poignant way. Those in similar circumstances should find her insights reassuring and helpful. This book also validates to those who have donated their loved ones organs that they made the right decision. Hopefully, it will heighten the awareness of the great need for organ donors."
As Nance waited for Miller to get a heart, she could not find a book that addressed the issues someone in her situation faced. "So, as a writer, I decided, after the dust settled, to write about my experience to help others going through the same or similar situations," she said.
Lisa Stiles Nance has been a copywriter since 1990. She writes advertising and marketing materials for several national and international companies. Life In Limbo, Waiting for a Heart Transplant is her first book. Miller Nance has just celebrated the fourth anniversary of his heart transplant and is in excellent health. The couple lives in Lenoir, NC.
